This first nugget is called pay-per-click for nickels. And what I mean by this is, pay-per-click is Google’s platform. They actually bought it from Yahoo.

A gentleman named Rory invented pay-per-click for Yahoo many years ago. I had the honor of sitting next to him on an airplane once. But pay-per-click is where you can establish a budget inside of Google and you can purchase phrases.

So let’s say you are an author and you have a best-selling book on cupcake recipes. Well, if you want to sell more of those books, you might go to Google and you say, Google, I want to buy the clicks centered around the best cupcake recipes, top cupcake recipes, good cupcake recipes. What you can do with Google is you can put up a budget, say $100, and Google’s going to say, okay, the average click cost might be, say, $0.80 or $0.62 or $1.40. Well, you don’t have to pay the $0.82 or the $1.40. You can budget it any way you want.

You say, well, I only want to pay $0.25 or a nickel. Well, if you put up a nickel or $0.25, they’re not going to put you on page one of those clicks. However, if there is a lot of activity in that category, you might get away with a nickel or a $0.25 bid, but you’re going to be on page two, maybe even page three of the bids for those phrases.

So you’re not going to get a lot of action or a lot of clicks. However, this is really good for testing, and it’s phenomenal if you have a small budget that you want to stretch out. So how does this work? So let’s pretend you have a budget of $100, and quite frankly, you’re even okay living with the $1 per click.

Let’s just pretend. So now here’s how this goes. So let’s say you’re trying to figure out what is the next 20 to 30 blog posts that you should do inside your site to get it to rank heavily and highly for cupcake recipes.

Well, what I would do, and what we have done in the past, is I would go into Google, and I would purchase 10 different phrases, and I would put a budget for each phrase of $10. So let’s say they’re $1 each, and maybe I bought the phrase, Top 5 Cupcake Recipes, or maybe I bought the phrase, Cinnamon Cupcake Recipe, or I bought the phrase, Best Selling Cupcake Recipes. So I would buy 10 different phrases, each given a $10 budget, and then, watch this, I would put them under a test for 30 days.

So what I’m going to do is I’m going to start all the budgets, I’m going to run them all at the same time, and I’m going to open these results every single day. So watch this. Maybe after just one day, there’s been 10 clicks on Cinnamon Cupcake Recipes.

On the rest of them, maybe only one or two. Well, right now, we know that Cinnamon Cupcake Recipes is a very sought-after phrase. And we know it is because that budget got exhausted, meaning there were 10 clicks on that faster than any other phrase.
